sounds desperate.

Really? I don't see why. There's no question about the community's displeasure with MediaNews' business strategy. Even our local political leaders have stepped forward to voice their concerns over what's happening.

We've met with a LOT of people, and every time, we hear the exact same complaints over declining coverage and the shrinking news hole. To a man, Press-Telegram readers are upset, and want more than they're getting now. The circulation numbers reflect that. So why not harness that, and give the community the respect they deserve?

I think a partnership with readers - who are essential to the survival of any newspaper - is both smart, and symptomatic of the resolve and optimism that the journalists and readers of our community have for essential local institutions like the Press-Telegram.

If anything, I'd say ignoring the wishes of readers is one of MediaNews' biggest failures. A business strategy that respects the relationship between a newspaper and its readers is crucial for any newspaper that wants to be successful.

Desperate is ancient generation managers ( 70 plus, ) desperately trying to relate to a new world and new media and now a new generation of government. good luck with that.

Oh and Len,
MediaNews doesn't care what the reader wants, it's what the the bank wants.
